Elpis Ministries- a preview

This past September I had the complete honor of visiting a group of Filipina missionaries living and serving the Lord in Mae Sot, Thailand. They work with migrant and refugee children from neighboring Myanmar (Burma). These children are the poorest of the poor, and their families are fleeing economic hardship and political oppression in their country that has been plagued by civil war for over 60 years. But the Lord is doing amazing work through these faithful women. It is work enabled in large part by the generosity of others. We are currently in the process of producing a web page and a body of work to tell their story of faith in a faithful God, as well as continue to expand their base of support to further their efforts to bring hope to the hopeless. They are currently running a school for migrant children (Elpis School), a safe-house for girls at risk (Faith Haus), a children’s church, as well as a number of other projects aimed at giving hope and a future to these children that the world has forgotten,but God has not. They are sharing God’s love in real, life-changing ways and the more they receive, the more lives they will be able to touch with the Gospel. Elpis School is a school for migrant children from Myanmar living in Thailand who cannot attend Thai schools and would otherwise receive no education.

Each day is opened with prayer.

The teachers at Elpis are mostly Burmese or Karen refugees working for little to serve the children there.

Every Friday the children have “Chapel Hour” before classes where they sing and hear Bible stories.

For many children, the lunch at Elpis School will be the one decent meal of the day.

Teacher Grace poses at the second anniversary celebration of “Faith Haus Children’s Church,” a bible school and worship time for children from surrounding villages, held every Saturday afternoon.
